Electra

Last week we went to the opera Electra by Richard Strauss. This was our first opera experience since we arrived two years ago, and at $9/ticket it could not be resisted. Perhaps the State Opera House is more impressive than the performance was. Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience and night out with our friends Dénes and Petra. You can tell from the pictures that we were on the third level in a box. We shared the box with four other paying customers who had the chairs in front of us. So most of the time we had to stand to get the full view. The opera itself was presented in a contemporary format. In other words, we shouldn't have been shocked when the main character was blasted away by her brother using an automatic rifle at the conclusion.
