Ballagás 2010

This year the ballagás ceremony was moved to 5:00 P.M. last Friday, and it really was a beautiful time of the day. The weather was perfect as the "school leavers" processed into the courtyard. Ballagás actually means "slow walking", which is what each class is doing in these first two photos. They walked through most of the two buildings, saying goodbye to the rooms where they have been studying for four or five years. The underclassmen had decorated the hallways and stairways with fresh-cut flowers, mostly very fragrent lilacs blooms. The 75 minute program began with the national hymn, followed by many speechs, poems, and student awards. At 6:30 many of the teachers gathered in the large teachers' room for sandwiches and champagne, with the purpose of congratulating the four class teachers who have led their students through these last four or five years.





During the ceremony each student carried a pouch containing small items for their "journey through life": a pogácsa (small bun), five forint, a picture of the school, and a photo of their class.
