Our colleagues warned us last year that the lack of snow and the warmer temperatures were not normal here in Hungary. So this must be closer to a normal winter. We have been in a cold weather grip for three weeks now, although the temps have been around the freezing mark during the day. In the last two weekends we have had snowfalls of 30 cm and 20 cm, and the piles are all around us. The main roads are plowed, and the main sidewalks are shoveled, but otherwise we have mostly ice-covered roads and snow-packed sidewalks. Our walking routes have changed now to avoid the snow and ice as much as possible (öregség = old age).
