Trefort school is going to the electronic gradebook. This is a much-improved way of recording grades. But the system is still rather ponderous with all of the record-keeping each teacher must keep. The system works like this: Each class of approximately 30 students has one gradebook. If there are 12 teachers giving grades to those students, then all twelve teachers need to enter marks into the one gradebook. Teachers must also record attendance for every class every day. Needless to say, there are many times when the naplo (diary or grade book) can not be found. Now teachers can do the work from home, without delay or frustration.
BUT, and it is a big BUT, this year is a trial year. We are using it for five classes. But we still must keep records in the former gradebooks. Double checking, you might say, or in case the system fails. But the bigger BUT is that next year, when every class is going to use the e-naplo, we must still use the old naplos--just 1n case the system fails. This redundancy will be even more frustrating for the teachers.
