Our last tourist stop was at a beautiful Reformed church in Valeni (Magyarvalko). Now this was also way off the main road. Our side trip to Valeni was well worth the time. This church was so full of history. The building was erected in 1261 as a catholic church, and in 1585 it became a Reformed congregation. A plaque in the church lists every pastor since that time. The ceiling is elaborately painted, and the walls are adorned by needle work commemorating the confirmation of young people each Pentecost. After our self-guided tour, we were invited into the home of the pastor and his wife for good conversation and cold drinks. Once back on the road, and with a bathroom break at the border, we got back to our flat at 11:00 last night.

The blue door. All of the woodwork inside the building is the same bright blue. (Notice the date that the door was built.)

The ceiling, painted in the late 1700's.

The pulpit, with the hanging that was made for a confirmation is 1980.

After the Turkish invasion, a fortification wall was built around the church, to protect it and its people from marauding invaders.
