Trefort Boat Trip

Yesterday the Trefort Agoston school enjoyed a boat trip on the Duna. Every staff member and student participates in this yearly event. Our 9D class met in the Deák ter metro station and walked to the boat dock. By 8:30 most everyone was aboard. It was such a beautiful spring day. The trip upriver took about two hours and brought us past one of our favorite towns, Szentendre.

Many of the 9th graders enjoy the logic of Rubik's cubes. (Erno Rubik is Hungarian.)
A beautiful view of Szentendre. We have not gotten into any of the churches here, but we have been told they are beautiful inside and out.
After arriving at Leányfalu, all 9th graders hike to a spring, 10th graders do another hike, 11th graders cook food, and 12th and 13th graders simply relax, play soccer, or find some other activity. Our hike took us on an uphill climb to a spring named for our school. On Earth Day in 1968 some Trefort students and teachers cleaned out and "developed" this area around the spring, thus the school's recognition.
At midday lots of activities and competitions were held, such as the tug of war, soccer shootouts, faculty versus student soccer and volleyball, and cooking. We did not realize that the cooking classes were competing, but the winners were announced later in the day.
During the "layover", the boat crew became painters, doing a little touch-up at the waterline. This apparently is a smaller boat than usual, necessitated by the fact that the river level is quite high and other boats can't fit under all the fixed bridges. But it still was large enough for the 700+ passengers of Trefort.
Here are Gábor, Attila, and Norbért cooking gulyás for 11D. It was very good. We were also able to sample some other classes' cooking. It was all very good.
Lunch with Pétér, János, and Norbérto.

We have come to realize how important tradition is in this culture. The Hungarians are very intent on remembering their heroes, their anniversaries, and their culture. This boat trip and visit to the "Trefort" spring are good examples.
