Ippistle 37

Ippistle 37
February 23, 2012

Dear Family and Friends,

We will begin by thanking all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and financial gifts that have continued to be an encouragement to us here in Hungary. Your partnership with us so vital; we do not take it lightly. We ask especially for your prayers for us over the next few weeks.

The last three weeks have been rather discouraging for us. External circumstances were largely the culprit: a two-week-long cold spell that permeated these apartment walls, twelve days without having internet, and a lingering cold that Cindy is still getting over and has unfortunately passed on to Jack. While this was and is going on, we are at the point in our TeachOverseas year where we have to make a decision regarding next year. We have always said and still believe that God will keep us here as long as He continues to use us here. We also believe that we will leave Hungary when there is something that God desires for us to do elsewhere.

Deep down inside we know that God has been working through us in each sector of our lives, but sometimes it is hard to see it and we can easily become discouraged. Jack has good days and bad days at school. On most days Cindy sees the positive contributions she has made in her work situations, but there are times of frustration as well. Add to this the longing we usually experience, to be much closer to our children and grand-children, and to our families and friends. All of this is making our decision to come back next year more difficult.

There have been a number of things--books, people, devotional readings-- that have recently reminded us that God is in control and that He can and will use us, not just in spite of our weakness, but even in our weakness. We have been reminded that God uses us best when we yield to Him and truly trust and obey. We know that God's calling us to work and live in Hungary was not an accident and has been filled with very encouraging times. Now we pray that God will renew us and give us a clear vision for how He can best use us in this coming year.

Please pray for us to have our eyes and hearts open to His direction.

In Him,

Jack and Cindy
