Kreischberg, Austria

We had a wonderful opportunity offered to us by our friends Balazs and Dori to go skiing with them at Kreischberg, a ski resort outside of Murau, Austria. The weather could not have been better...beautiful sunny skies both days.

The first day we went cross-country skiing about half way up the mountain on a small cross country ski trail, while Balazs and Dori hit the higher slopes down-hill skiing.

From the beginning, Jack's skis wouldn't grip properly, leaving him slipping and sliding all morning and unfortunately falling way too often. One of his falls after lunch was bad enough that he felt like he had injured a rib and decided that he would just hang out at the restaurant half way up the slopes for the rest of the day. Cindy continued to enjoy the cross country trail and did a few more loops before joining Jack.

The next day Jack decided he had had enough of falling while cross-country skiing and thought it would be more fun to try down-hill skiing instead. (The last time we went down hill skiing was over ten years ago at Caberfae!) Balazs and Dori convinced us that there were many "easy" trails that we should have no problem negotiating.

So up to the top we went via the gondola and t-bar with Balazs and Dori as our guides. The view from the 2118 meter peak of Rosenkranzhohe was amazing, and how the cold wind was howling!

Balazs led, followed by Jack, then Cindy, with Dori doing clean-up. It was not a pretty sight, but we successfully managed to complete three long downhill runs. After returning to the mid point gondola station, we stuck to the bunny hill for the rest of the day and became pretty good at turning and stopping and getting down the hill.

We honestly had a wonderful time! It really was very fun and the five-hour car ride each way with Balazs and Dori was really enjoyable as well.

Note:
Jack spent the morning at the hospital today getting x-rays and medication for his bruised rib.
