Snow Storm and X-Country Skiing

Yesterday we finally enjoyed going out and cross-country skiing, our first time here in Budapest. We had planned this earlier in the week, and when we woke up to the sound of our building superintendent shovelling at 5:45 A.M., we knew that the snow would be good. When we left the building we already had six inches of new snow. It took 75 minutes to get to Normafa by public transportation. Finding the equipment rental place was tricky, as there are no signs advertising the place, and it is set deep in the woods. But we found the house/shop after a bit of searching. The man was quite friendly, and with our limited abilities to speak each others' language, we got the skis, poles, and boots we needed. A little "small talk" revealed that he was going to Vancouver next week as a trainer for Hungary's biathalon team in the winter Olympics. Our time skiing became a little frustrating as the weather warmed up and our skis started icing up. But we sure enjoyed the beauty of the snow during the one and a half hours we were up there. By the time we got back to our flat another 6 inches had fallen. We came home soaking wet! Some mulled wine and hot showers thawed us out.
