The annual TeachOverseas Central Europe Thanksgiving Retreat was held November 28-December 1 in Dlouhy in the Czech Republic. We Hungarians rented three cars to drive the five hours to a beautiful Youth for Christ conference center in the remote countryside of Czech. There we met our Slovak and Czech fellow teachers for the three-day event.
One of the highlights was the real turkey dinner, including turkey, mashed potatoes, home-made stuffing, corn, green beans, and cranberry sauce. THEN dessert was served, which various ESIers made, including pumpkin pie. Sorry to say, we lived up to the reputation for over-indulging on this holiday.
Another highlight was the four worship times we were able to have together; lots of singing, testimonies of how God is using us in our situations, prayers for each other, and an opportunity for celebrating the Lord's supper. Our colleagues were responsible for the devotionals. The worship was truly a time of refreshment, encouragement, and praise for God.
To retreat into the countryside was a blessing in itself. For us it was a time to get away from the busy, crowded, polluted city and enjoy the peace and quiet. We also loved our times of conversation with friends, playing cards and board games, and simply relaxing. There was even a geocache nearby that we found by going cross-country, jumping over creeks when there were bridges a few meters away. The walk through the woods was wonderful.
We came home on Tuesday feeling really refreshed and ready to tackle the two weeks before the Christmas break, and very thankful for the blessings of retreating.
