9D Pizza Party

23 students, 8 adults, 18 pizzas. On Saturday night we hosted a pizza party for the 9D students. The kids seemed to have a good time hanging out in our apartment and in our partners' flat. The preparations began around noon, and by the time the first students arrived at 5:00, we had six pizzas ready to eat. Add to that the snacks and drink that our guests brought, and we had enough food to go around.

It was an interesting study in social behavior, watching the kids slowly feel at home in our apartment. At first we had to urge them to sit instead of standing and browsing. By six o'clock they all seemed comfortable here and were milling about the two apartments. Because we had advertised a 7:00 ending, they all left shortly thereafter, and gave us an opportunity to clean up the mess.

We know that such gatherings allow the students a more personal look into the lives of their teachers; that is good! It is a part of the trust-building that needs to take place. It was also pleasing to have two of our Hungarian colleagues come for a while as well. Of course, they questioned our sanity in doing something crazy like this. But we know it was all worthwhile!
