Pizza Party and Gazdagrét

Last night we hosted some of my 9th grade students for a pizza party. I invited the entire 9B1 class of sixteen, nine signed up, and seven came. We spent much of the day slicing sausage and veggies, grating cheese, making dough, and moving furniture. We made twelve pizzas and actually consumed eight of them. It was good to break the teacher/student privacy barrier by having them in our home. We finished the night playing the Name Game, which I thought had the potential to fall flat due to the language/culture barrier. But it took right off, and the students really enjoyed it. Our prayer is that through the experience the students might see God in our home and especilly in our lives.

Today we worshiped at Gazdagrét, a Reformed church in Buda. Cindy's co-workers Anne-Marie and Monika attend this church, and we had the opportunity to meet Moni's husband Viktor. The service was in Hungarian; Anne-Marie provided the translation for us, so we sat in the balcony wearing head-sets. It was communion Sunday, and although everything was spoken in Hungarian we were glad to share this sacrament with other believers. The congregation is full of people of all ages, which is very exciting to see. The worshipers were challenged by the pastor to examine their own lives, in order to make a difference in a country that is experiencing a difficult political and financial crisis.

"experiencing a difficult political and financial crisis."

He was talking about Hungary, right?

Fun! I loved reading about this. I wish I could have been there to eat a few slices of pizza and meet your students.
