We are back to work in Budapest. After a 24 hour layover in Madrid (mechanical problem in Dallas), we finally arrived at our flat at 8:30 Monday night. Within twelve hours we were at work and fighting off the jet-lag. But our colleagues were happy to see us and welcomed us with a "Boldog uj évet kivánok!" Happy New Year!
The week was very cold and dark. It seemed like Michigan with the heavy overcast and absence of sunshine. By Friday the temperatures were back above freezing during the day, and during the weekend it was continuously above freezing; most of the snow is gone. It looks like we will have 40 degree weather for the next ten days.
This weekend we hosted two TeachOverseas teacher-friends and their boyfriends (fiances). The boys both flew out of Budapest to return to their homes, one on Saturday and the other yesterday. We enjoyed preparing food for our guests and offering them a relaxing place to stay.
Yesterday we visited a new church here in our neighborhood. It is a church plant of Calvary Chapel Downtown, which we normally attend. This church is called Golgota Del-Pest (Calvary South-Pest) and it meets just three tram stops from here. Because the father of one of our (American) friends was the speaker, we took advantage of not having to have a translator. We had some wonderful conversations with people worshiping there and will probably return again. The congregation is made up of about 40 people who meet in a large conference room at a local business.
Next weekend: Our TeachOverseas Spiritual Renewal Retreat, Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
