Cesky Krumlov

Earlier this month we traveled to Czech Republic during our fall break. We had the wonderful company of our Bosscher friends from Zeeland. Beginning on Saturday, October 28, we drove our rented car through western Hungary, northern Austria, and into southern Czech. Our first stop was at the castle of Rozmberk.

Here is the view from the tower of Rozmberk Castle.

After a short tour of the castle, and a climb to the top of the tower, we were back on the road to Cesky Krumlov. It's a beautiful town, with the centrum almost totally surrounded by the Vltava River. Such an old-European feel you get in such a place! The biggest highlight for us was probably the tour of the Eggenberg Brewery, which dates back to 1560. The "substitute" English guide turned out to be a town historian with a great sense of humor! One of the Eggenberg beers is still the original recipe and can only be bought from the tap. The castle grounds were quite spectacular, with amazing views from up above. We also enjoyed two local restaurants, where foreigners are welcome and food is excellent. The town center was a twenty minute walk from our pension.

A view from the castle grounds.

NEXT STOP: Zelnava
